Migration Processes of Central Zemplin in the Period of „Dualism“ (1867-1918) I.
Migračné procesy Stredného Zemplína v období dualizmu (1867-1978) I.
The submitted paper deals with the migration processes in the researched territory. Considering the agricultural characteristics, the location sustainability has radically decreased. Surplus of labour force supply was so large, that neither the towns, nor the industry were able to absorb it. This process was partially resolved by emigration. The intensity of emigration was unequal in different parts of the state. Zemplin County belonged to those places, which produced the most emigrants. The most seriously affected territories were locations, with high degree of ethnic heterogeneity. This phenomenon was characteristic not only in the Trebišov County, but also in whole Hungary. Research works realized in the region also affirmed this fact. Minorities migrated mostly from territories with mixed ethnic groups. All parts of the region inhabited by Slovaks were affected by the emigration, but mostly locality of Sečovce and the neighbouring villages. We have obtained a very interesting picture in regard of evaluation of emigration published in the contemporary periodicals. This way, not only the data and the official reports were examined, but also the opinions of people. We learned about the behaviour of those who came back, their stories, and experiences from the another side of the ocean“. The size of the work did not allow analysing the consequences and reason-effect relations of the emigration. Discovering this needs further research works.
