Transcarpathian and Eastern Slovakian Materials from the Archives of Florián Zapletal
Zakarpatské a východoslovenské materiály z archívu Floriána Zapletala
On the death of the Czech historian, ethnographer and military representative Florián Zapletal (1886-1969) his wife, fulfiling the last will of her deceased husband, delivered to the author of the article several boxes of photonegatives made on glass, about 150 diaries and some other documents from her husband’s archives. Researcher chose from Zapletal’s legacy about 500 negatives of wooden churches and other materials from the former Subcarpathian Rus and prepared a publication on Carpathian wooden churches in the photographies by Florián Zapletal. The book Holzkirchen in den Karpaten - Wooden Churches in the Carpathians Churches (with 260 photographies). was published in 1982 in Vienna in German and English versions under the name of the professor of University of Toronto - P. R. Magocsi. Another part of Zapletal’s archives connected with Eastern Slovakia and Subcarpathian Rus was transferred to Museum of Ukrainian Culture in Svidník and books were delivered to State Scientific Library in Prešov. Manuscripts of Zapletal’s articles, diaries, private correspondence and some official documents remained in the private archives of the author of this article.
