Abstract

Persistent endeavours generated by Czech teachers in the area of out-school educational activities, intensively supported by school administration, helped Slovaks to achieve a considerable enhancemement in the sphere of culture and approximate the traditions of Western Europe. These teachers focused their activities upon the work with pupils. They organized trips, excursions, school theatrical performances and academies. Educational activities aimed upon other population strata were realized in clubs and associations of cultural, humanitarian or sport type. Czech educators were active also in the area of art and science, and especially as the organizators of lectures and training courses. They did not shied away from political activities. In spite of these achivements, a certain barrier between Czech teachers and Slovak population existed, which, consequently, led to their isolation. Reason for this can be seen in a different cultural background.
