Abstract

The paper is elaborating the results of historical and sociological  research, which in year 2000 realized the Institute of Social Sciences  of SAS in Košice. The focus of interest was the question how the  Ruthenians and Ukrainians in the north-eastern Slovakian districts  perceive certain historic periods from the point of view of their  influence upon the development of their ethnic community. It was  determined, that the respondents of both groups negatively evaluated the period of Austro-Hungary and Slovak Republic, in existence during the  war period, but positively after-war years and the development after  1989. The most differing opinions presented the period of socialism -  years 1948-1989. The paper, in form of statistical schedule, data not  only describe, but endeavor to explain closely the attitudes of  respondents from the historical point of view.
