Girl´s Education in Slovakia during 19th Century
The study surveys the society of Slovakia during second half of 19th century, respective how it perceived the need of girl´s education and development of the school system on the state, confessional and private levels. For the majority of women, the school attendance ended with accomplishment of the elementary school. The higher education was the issue of the self-study and the family. The education was not aimed on the independent realization of the women in the society in any profession. It was concentrated more on artistic abilities, eventually languages skills and the hand crafts dominated. The study mentions the sample projects of various schools, their aims and the list of subjects. Despite the emphasize on womes´s education by national movement, there was not created the range of jobs where they could to apply their education. After marriage most of them stayed in the household and helped in family businesses. The paid job was done mostly by women who did not marry for various reasons. The realization of the women with the higher education was limited. The professional realization in the paid professions, which required the higher education, was available only for women, who studied or updated their education in the beginning of 20th century.
